Introduction

Advancing Women's Rights and Empowerment in Nigeria

Despite successive administration's efforts at integrating the woman's question into the development agenda, discrimination and inequalities against women remain pervasive within most Nigerian spaces. Hence, the focus of the women's department to ensure the promotion of the welfare and advancement of women for a sustainable development for the country through programme initiatives to discontinue the perpetration of socio-political injustice and underdevelopment.

In line with the mandate and vision of the Federal Ministry of Women Affairs, the Women Development Department is central to the attainment of the Ministry's mandate. In essence, it aims at drawing public attention to the fundamental rights of women, their potentials and the need for the society to guarantee women's equal access to development opportunities, eliminate discrimination in socio-political and economic life of women amongst several other areas.
